A New Wrought Contact Alloy for
High Temperature Applications

Abstract

   This paper discusses the development, evaluation, testing and deployment of a new gold alloy for high temperature automotive applications. The alloy composition is 65% Au - 21 % Pd - 14% Ag by weight. Bulk material properties, including conductivity, hardness, softening resistance, ductility, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance are presented. The behavior of the alloy as an integral part of an engineered material system is explored. Finally, the successful application of a material system to an extreme automotive environment is presented.
