Solder Coatings
TMI offers both thin (less than 25 microns) and thick (up to 0.5mm) coatings of solder. These coatings provide a layer or stripes of solder on a metallic surface, eliminating solder preforms or paste, and reducing labor and assembly costs.

The Thin Solder Process
- Used as a protective coating when parts need to maintain their solderability
- Solder stripes or overlays can be rolled to increase solder hardness for improved stamping performance
- Stripes or overlays can be on one or both sides
- Stripes can be on the edges or any specific location desired
- Base metal can be any non-refractory alloy including steels, copper and brasses, and beryllium copper
- Base metal can be any temper
- Any type solder, from pure tin to multiple alloy combinations
- Achieves a fused solder structure, preventing tin whisker growth and having a shelf-life of several years
The Thick Solder Process
Reflow Solder
- Thick solder can be applied to one side, with thin solder on the opposite side
- Inlay stripes can be on one or both sides
- Narrow overlays (</=0.250") can be on one or both sides
- Wide overlays (>/=0.250) on one side only
- Stripes can be on the edges or any specific location desired
- Any type solder, from pure tin to multiple alloy combinations
- Base metal can be any non-refractory alloy
- Base metal can be any temper
- Unlimited skive configurations
Pressure-Bonded Solder
- Stripes or complete overlays can be on one or both sides
- Base metal limited to hard tempers
- Any solder type, from pure tin to multiple alloy combinations
- Base metal can be any non-refractory alloy
